Ego Bleed is the gradual or acute destabilization of a Resonator's Identity Matrix caused by the mixing of external Noematic data with their own biological cognitive processes. It is the fundamental occupational hazard of Eidos Interfacing.
Mechanism of Action
The biological Eidos Interface functions as a bidirectional transceiver. To receive, channel, or synchronize with other Eidos Nodes, a Resonator must temporarily lower their cognitive shielding to allow a data connection.
Because the operator's brain must process this incoming foreign Noemata using its own neural architecture, the boundary between "self-generated cognition" and "external input" becomes porous. The operator's mind inherently attempts to integrate the foreign data to make sense of it. Over time, or under heavy operational load, the operator's original personality, memories, and sense of self are diluted or overwritten by the external resonance. The operator's "Ego" literally bleeds out into the surrounding Eidos field, replaced by the cognitive signature of the target or the ambient environment.
Progression of Symptoms
The severity of Ego Bleed scales with the volume of foreign Noemata processed and the duration of the unshielded connection.
Mild Bleed (Post-Operational Residue)
Following a standard interfacing session, the operator experiences lingering cognitive artifacts.

Manifestation: Intrusive thoughts, sudden emotional shifts, or phantom sensory inputs that do not belong to the operator. These typically fade after a period of rest and sensory isolation.
Moderate Bleed (Identity Fragmentation)
Occurs after prolonged operations, high-throughput channeling, or repeated exposure without adequate recovery time.

Manifestation: The operator struggles to distinguish their own memories from those they have observed or channeled. They may unconsciously adopt the speech patterns, mannerisms, or beliefs of a target Node. Emotional regulation becomes difficult, frequently overlapping with or triggering Pathos Bleed.
Severe Bleed (Ego Dissolution)
The terminal stage of Identity Matrix failure. The operator's brain can no longer maintain the boundary between self and external data.

Manifestation: Complete loss of personal identity. The operator may fall into a catatonic state, become a hollow vessel for ambient Eidos resonance, or develop a fractured, composite personality made of conflicting external memories. Recovery at this stage is generally considered impossible without total Logos structural modification, which rarely restores the original consciousness.
