Appearance
The artifact presents as a five-pronged circlet forged from deusit, a white metallic alloy of unknown composition that has resisted all known analytical methods. Each prong rises approximately 4cm from the base band. At a point 2cm above the base, every prong contains a threaded bore approximately 0.5cm in diameter. Each bore houses a non-removable screw, 5cm in total length from tip to head. The screw heads sit flush within recessed channels on the exterior of each prong, presenting no protrusion or grip surface for manual manipulation.
The interior of the base band is smooth and contoured to interface with the cranial curvature of a compatible sapient host. No visible seams, joints, or manufacturing marks are present. The Pool functions as an external, non-biological memory substrate. While attached, the Crown continuously mirrors the host's cognitive state into the Pool, maintaining a real-time backup of personality, memory, knowledge, and experiential data.
Initial State and the Prime Host
In its dormant state, the Pool is an unformatted, infinitely deep conceptual void. It possesses the structural capacity to store a complete sapient consciousness but contains no baseline data, personality matrix, or memory architecture.
Because the Pool lacks a stored consciousness, the standard overwrite sequence cannot execute during the initial attachment. The Crown initiates an Initial Synchronization and Upload.
Upon the screws driving into the first compatible host, the Crown performs a comprehensive, high-fidelity scan of the host's biological brain. It maps the host's entire cognitive architecture, memory engrams, and personality matrix, writing this data directly into the empty Pool. The biological brain ceases to function as an independent memory drive and operates exclusively as a biological transceiver for the artifact's external storage.
Consciousness Overwrite and Node Severance
When a new compatible host is attached, the Crown initiates a full overwrite sequence. This process fundamentally alters the host's planar anatomy.
During the first seconds of attachment, the host's original Eidos Node undergoes immediate planar severance and structural dissolution. The original Node is permanently destroyed. Severing the physical connection to the Crown immediately severs the brain's only remaining planar anchor.
