The Standard of the Sacred Arch (colloquially known as the Triune Banner or the Keystone Standard) is the supreme vexillological symbol of the Tarosian Kingdom and later the Tarosian Empire. The banner functions as a sacred relic and a physical manifestation of the Rightful Path. Its design adheres strictly to the theological and geometric imperatives of Arialian Conservatism, encoding the doctrine of Spherical Autonomy and the divine mandate of the Kayros into a single, immediately legible visual statement.
Geometry of the Charge
The central charge is a perfect equilateral triangle, oriented with one apex pointing upward. Two lines are drawn from this apex to the base, dividing the triangle into three equal vertical wedges. Each wedge belongs to one Pillar of the Rightful Path. All three wedges share the base equally and all three wedges share the apex equally. No single wedge occupies a higher or lower position than the others. This tripartite division is the visual expression of the Verse of the Three Pillars: three sovereign domains, equal in necessity, each bearing the full weight of the Arch from foundation to peak.
The three wedges are arranged in the ritual order of the Three Halls as recited in the Verse of the Living Clay:
-
Heraldic Left (viewer's left) Abyssal Blue-Black: The Shakor, Pillar of Order. The dark, impenetrable flank representing the Hall of War.
-
Center Alabaster White with Pale Gold Lattice: The Ikor, Pillar of Mind. The luminous core representing the Hall of Stars. Faint pale-gold geometric lattice lines are woven into the white fabric, visible only at close range, representing the Lattice that the Ikor interpret and maintain.
-
Heraldic Right (viewer's right) Fired Clay and Oxidized Bronze: The Garont, Pillar of Matter. The warm, grounded flank representing the Hall of Stone.
The Keystone
At the apex, where all three wedges converge to a single point, sits a solid Pale Gold and Platinum diamond known as the Keystone. The Keystone overlaps the uppermost tips of all three wedges simultaneously. This placement encodes the central tenet of the Verse of the Keystone: the Pillars push against each other to hold the structure, and the Keystone sits at the convergence, holding the tension and touching the heavens. Remove any single wedge and the apex collapses. The Kayros rests upon the convergence of all three Pillars, never upon one alone.
The Field, Border, and the Absence of the Fourth
The banner is a perfect square. The field surrounding the central triangle is Alabaster White, representing the Firmament of Thought and the regulated light of the Sun-Spire. The white field creates visual separation between the triangle and the edges, presenting the central charge as a freestanding monument against an open sky.
The edges of the square are bound by a thick trim of Oxidized Bronze, forged and patinated by Garont smiths. The Garont literally hold the edges of the state together, preventing the fabric from fraying into the Chaos.
The banner contains exactly three hues plus the Keystone. No grey, no ash, no intermediate or mixed color appears anywhere on the standard. The number four is intrinsically linked to the sord and to planar contamination within Conservative theology. The total absence of a fourth color on the banner is a deliberate theological statement: the sacred geometry of the Arch contains no space for the Spilled Clay.
The Pole and Finial
The banner hangs from a pole of dark, polished iron, capped with a three-dimensional Golden Keystone finial. During state processions, the finial catches direct sunlight and casts a bright point of light above the crowd, physically placing the symbol of the Kayros above every head in the street.
Material and Dye Sources
The construction of the banner relies entirely on Bronze Age material culture, sourced and regulated through state monopolies managed by the Garont under Ikor quotas:
-
Alabaster White: Achieved through repeated washing in lye derived from wood ash and extended sun-bleaching in the regulated climate zone surrounding Ark's Peak.
-
Pale Gold Lattice and Keystone: Actual hammered gold and platinum wire, drawn from the Kingdom's mint reserves and woven directly into the fabric.
-
Abyssal Blue-Black: Produced from indigo sourced through the Secret Chancery's shadow trade with Deseria. Achieving the required depth requires dozens of sequential dips, oxidations, and re-dips, making this the most labor-intensive color on the banner.
-
Fired Clay Brown: Produced from madder root combined with an iron mordant derived from roasted pyrite or bog iron, yielding a deep, colorfast reddish-brown.
-
Oxidized Bronze Trim: Deliberately patinated using vinegar, salt, and controlled heat to produce a dark, rich surface.
Psychological Function
The Standard of the Sacred Arch operates on the Tarosian citizen at three simultaneous levels:
-
Validation: Each kor citizen sees their Pillar's color reaching from the base to the apex, equal in proportion to the others. Their domain is sovereign and their contribution essential.
-
Dependency: Each citizen also sees that the Keystone occupies only the point where all three colors converge. No single Pillar can sustain the Arch alone. Fracturing the geometry invites a repetition of the Virian Cataclysm.
-
Exclusion: The absence of any fourth color directs frustration and ambition outward toward the excluded sord population rather than upward toward the Crown.
The Keystone Pennon
The Shakor legions carry a distinct battlefield variant known as the Keystone Pennon: a stiff, narrow triangular pennon dyed entirely in Abyssal Blue-Black, mounted on a spear shaft and capped with the Golden Keystone finial. On the battlefield, the Shakor exercise sole sovereign authority within the Hall of War. Their pennon reflects this domain exclusively, presenting a single dark blade of fabric tipped with gold.
